ILLEGAL DISPLACEMENT OF FILIPINO MIGRANT WORKERS AVERTED!!!
On February 2, 2010, the new Philippine Labor Attache to Taiwan, Republic of China, Mr. REYDELUZ CONFERIDO, was in Hualien City for a working visit. In the morning, we attended the trial hearing of a Filipino seaman and others who were charged and being tried in Hualien criminal court.
Those who also attended the trial hearing were Father Eliseo Napiere, MSP, the executive secretary of the Episcopal Commission on Migrants and Itinerant People-Taiwan and Ms. Rose Lin, a pastoral and social worker.
In the afternoon, we visited 16 Filipino workers employed in a food manufacturing company. The week before, four Filipino workers sought the help and intervention of CMCH because they will be illegally retrenched. Thus, together with Ningning of MECO-OWWA, we sought a dialogue with their employer and broker. After long hours of concilliatory meeting, we successfully averted the illegal displacement of the four Filipino workers.
